What was life like in Emily Dickinson's shoes?

emily dickinson   Emily Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts on December 10, 1830. She had one older brother and one younger brother.http://www.uta.edu/english/tim/poetry/ed/bio.html This left her being the middle child, and this is said now that there are some issues feeling different and confused. Her family were pillars, and their house was known as the "Mansion" which was used for well known visitors. Emily was said to be a bright and sweet young girl who loved to write. I believe her father had somewhat to do with how Emily turned out in life. The biographies for Emily Dickinson talks about how strict her father was. Emily became withdrawn to society after leaving college because of a strong cough, but her father is the one who took her out of college and wanted her home with him. She did not like company at her house, and became intense when company came and visited. During her time, the nineteenth century, Calvinism was the dominant religion of that time. Her father refused to believe this way and did not care for his children to either. This left Emily feeling left out.The Civil War highly influenced Emily's writing for loosing people she knew and loved in her life. Emily never married. She lived at home all her life taking care of her parents. She died at the age 55 due to a kidney disease called Bright's disease. The doctors say it was because of stress she died at an early age. I think she was stressed about her home life. It is not said anything other than her father was strict on her, but i think there was more that we do not know about her home life.I do believe Emily Dickinson had some happy moments in her life, and not all of her poems were sad or about death.  http://www.biographyonline.net/poets/emily_dickinson.html
